I’LL BE YOUR MIRROR: H+O Unveil a Transformative Apartment Installation During Milan Design Week

From September 5th to 10th, 2021, the creative duo behind H+O, Josephine Akvama Hoffmeyer and Elisa Ossino, present their evocative apartment installation, I’LL BE YOUR MIRROR, as part of Milan Design Week. Conceptual, immersive, and emotionally resonant, the exhibition redefines the boundaries of interior design by transforming the domestic sphere into a poetic space of introspection and encounter.

Set within a Milanese apartment, I’LL BE YOUR MIRROR elevates the idea of a home into a dynamic art and design installation. Here, reflection operates on both literal and symbolic levels—mirrors are not only objects but also metaphors, asking visitors to consider their identity, presence, and emotional resonance within a curated interior environment. The title itself, drawn from the iconic song by The Velvet Underground & Nico, hints at the installation’s underlying themes of perception, memory, and transformation:

“Reflect what you are, in case you don’t know

I’ll be the wind, the rain and the sunset

Light on your door to show that you’re home.”

Inside the apartment, a dialogue unfolds between architecture and art, material and mood. Elisa Ossino Studio has carefully orchestrated a series of spatial compositions where custom-designed furniture, lighting, ceramics, and artworks coalesce into a layered sensory narrative. Each element is meticulously chosen to serve the mirror—either directly through form and surface or conceptually through interaction and presence.

Josephine Akvama Hoffmeyer and Elisa Ossino have also collaborated with a select roster of international design houses, whose work is interwoven throughout the space. Their contributions—a medley of refined objects—blur the line between functionality and sculpture, furthering the notion that design can be both practical and poetic.

A site-specific analog installation by Italian artist Roberta Savelli adds a final layer of tension and allure to the environment. Her work deepens the atmosphere of quiet suspense, anchoring the emotional undercurrents of the exhibition and inviting a meditative experience that lingers long after departure.

I’LL BE YOUR MIRROR is not just an interior; it is an emotional architecture—one that speaks to the self, to memory, and to the quiet power of spaces designed with deep sensitivity. In a time when the home has taken on unprecedented meaning, H+O’s installation reminds us that interiors can be both sanctuaries and stages, mirrors and windows, worlds to inhabit and to behold.
