Pierre Paulin’s Sculptural F300 Chair Returns in GUBI’s Latest Revival
GUBI continues its revival of iconic 20th-century design with the return of Pierre Paulin’s F300 Lounge Chair and its companion, the T877 Side Table — two sculptural statements that redefined modernist seating when they debuted in the late 1960s.
With its bold silhouette and fluid, futuristic lines, the F300 challenged the visual language of furniture at the time. More akin to an art installation than a traditional lounge chair, it quickly earned cult status — even securing a place in MoMA’s permanent collection. Now, decades on, GUBI reintroduces the design for a contemporary audience, updating its materials while preserving its radical form and comfort-first ethos.
Unlike Paulin’s famously soft Pacha Chair, the F300 presents a more defined aesthetic — still organic and curvaceous, but sharper in tone, capturing a unique balance of sculpture and functionality. Its shape encourages relaxed, informal postures, while the absence of flat surfaces invites dynamic use, making it equally suited to lounging or socialising.
Central to this reissue is the use of HiREK®, a 21st-century engineered polymer crafted from industrial plastic waste. Lightweight, UV-resistant, and high-gloss without requiring additional finishes, HiREK mirrors the look and performance of the F300’s original fibreglass and polyurethane and brings a welcome sustainability angle. Custom moulds developed by GUBI press the material into the chair’s final form, replicating Paulin’s original vision with remarkable precision.
The accompanying T877 side table echoes the chair’s sculptural sensibility, offering a playful yet practical partner in matching material and form. Both pieces are available in a palette that spans soft Alabaster White and 1970s-inspired Pastel Green, with the T877 further enriched by Violet Ice, Honey Gold, and Molé tones that allow seamless integration into a wide range of interior schemes.
Both pieces are highly portable and incredibly versatile, and are designed to move easily between rooms or outdoors, responding to the modern demand for flexible, fluid living spaces.
By bringing the F300 and T877 back into production, GUBI celebrates one of Pierre Paulin’s most progressive designs and underscores the ongoing relevance of design that fuses innovation, sustainability, and timeless visual impact.
