Stefan Gunnesch: Merging Art, Craft, and Gin
In the world of fine design, the boundaries between art, craftsmanship, and luxury often blur. One artist who exemplifies this seamless integration is Stefan Gunnesch—a visionary whose work has graced galleries in New York, London, and Vienna and whose recent collaborations have redefined creative partnerships. His latest project with Meissen and Juniper Jack celebrates not just artistry but the power of cross-disciplinary collaboration.
The Collaboration: Juniper Jack Meets Meissen Porcelain
To mark the five-year anniversary of Juniper Jack, an independent gin brand known for its bold and classic Flavors, the collaboration set out to create something more than just another limited-edition bottle. Instead of traditional glass, Juniper Jack sought out Meissen, the legendary porcelain manufacturer known for its exquisite craftsmanship and instantly recognisable blue crossed swords insignia. The goal? To craft a gin vase—a striking, artistic vessel that would serve as both a collector’s item and a showcase of exceptional design.
Stefan Gunnesch: The Artistic Force
Having previously designed the JUNIPER JACK head for the brand’s signature bottle, Gunnesch was the natural choice to bring the vase concept to life. However, his artistic journey had taken him far beyond branding—his work now occupied the world of high-end galleries and luxury design collaborations, including recent commissions for Christian Dior. When Juniper Jack approached him with the idea, his initial reaction was to decline.
Not because of disinterest, but because he thought they wanted another iteration of the Juniper Jack head. His response? “If we’re doing this, we’re making real art.” That challenge became the heart of the collaboration—shifting away from commercial branding and instead creating a pure artistic statement on Meissen’s legendary porcelain.
Three Editions: Art Meets Gin
The collaboration resulted in three limited-edition vases, each celebrating a different milestone:
The 5-Year Anniversary Edition
The Easter Edition
The Christmas 2021 Edition
The project’s tagline, “All good things are DRY,” played on both the nature of the gin and the exclusivity of the collection. With only 333 pieces per edition, the vases became more than just containers for gin—they became sought-after collectibles that merged heritage, contemporary art, and fine craftsmanship.
A Fusion of Design and Flavour
Each vase housed a distinct Juniper Jack Gin, reinforcing the artistic essence of the collaboration with carefully selected botanical notes:
Edition No. 1: Lemongrass—fresh and vibrant, echoing the boldness of the artwork.
Edition No. 2: Mandarin—rich and citrusy, a nod to festive warmth.
Edition No. 3: Quince—delicate and refined, a fitting tribute to craftsmanship.
A Testament to Timeless Craftsmanship
Gunnesch’s approach to design has always been about pushing boundaries, and this project is a testament to his ability to bridge different creative worlds. The Meissen porcelain provided a historic, tactile canvas, while Juniper Jack’s gin infused the project with contemporary boldness. Together, the three creators—Meissen, Gunnesch, and Juniper Jack—proved that great design is not just about aesthetics but about storytelling, craftsmanship, and the fusion of ideas.
For collectors and enthusiasts, the Juniper Jack x Meissen x Gunnesch collaboration stands as a bold statement in the world of luxury design—where tradition meets innovation and where a vase can be much more than just a vessel.
