Miramonti: A Boutique Hotel Where Nature-Inspired Design Meets Italian Craftsmanship

Tucked into the breathtaking landscape of Brescia, Italy—just a two-hour journey from the bustling cultural capital of Milan—Miramonti redefines what it means to escape into nature with design at its core. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, rich woodland, and scenic vineyards, the luxury boutique hotel has long been a haven for travellers seeking seasonal outdoor pursuits, from hiking and skiing to wine tasting and foraging. Now, with a transformative new interior by London-based studio Boxx Creative, Miramonti elevates its offering into the world of immersive and sustainable design-led hospitality.

A Design Rooted in Place

Taking its name from the Italian for “mountain view,” Miramonti’s refreshed identity is firmly grounded in its location. Inspired by the natural elements of its surroundings, Boxx Creative has infused every inch of the hotel with a deep respect for the environment, from materials and colour palettes to layout and lighting.

The studio—founded by interior designers Nicola Keenan and Nicola Lindsell—approached the renovation holistically, starting with a strategic reconfiguration of the hotel layout to maximise space, enhance flexibility, and cater to both couples and families. Their goal: to deliver functional elegance while honouring Miramonti’s scenic backdrop and cultural heritage.

From the moment guests approach the hotel, the impact of design is immediate. The building’s newly finished terracotta-toned façade echoes the rich hues of the surrounding Italian terrain—a colour that shifts with the seasons and sunlight, much like the landscape itself.

Thoughtful Spatial Planning with Guests in Mind

At the heart of Boxx Creative’s concept was the guest experience. Space planning was a key part of their redesign, aimed at improving comfort and increasing capacity. One standout solution was the introduction of flexible room types, including cleverly connected Family Suites that can accommodate up to six guests, with private en-suite bunk-bed rooms providing a practical yet stylish solution for families. Meanwhile, the Deluxe Doubles offer secluded comfort for couples, complete with private balconies and expansive views of the Alpine surroundings.

This clever spatial optimisation ensures that every square foot is utilised effectively, without ever feeling cramped, underscoring the studio’s expertise in boutique hotel design that balances commercial objectives with guest wellbeing.

A Palette of Earth, Water, and Sky

The interiors at Miramonti are a tribute to the five classical elements: earth, fire, air, water, wood and metal. Each floor of the hotel was individually redesigned, drawing from this elemental theme to guide the materiality, tone, and tactile experience of each space.

In the guest rooms, calming green and blue colour schemes evoke the region’s forests and lakes, while richer accent tones add a layer of sophistication. Boxx Creative employed a restrained yet expressive material palette to bring depth and authenticity to the interiors: natural stone basins, carved wooden headboards, solid trunk coffee tables, and round metal bedside tables all contribute to a design language that is deeply rooted in nature and craftsmanship.

Sustainability and Craftsmanship: A Defining Approach

Sustainability was central to the project, not just as an aesthetic, but as a practice. Boxx Creative selected local artisans and manufacturers, and wherever possible, used sustainable and recycled materials. Carpeting in the corridors was crafted from recycled fibres and meticulously inlaid within hand-crafted wooden flooring sourced from sustainable forests.

Even the underfloor heating system was thoughtfully designed—individually controlled and energy-efficient, it provides discreet comfort without compromising the integrity of the flooring. The result is a hotel that feels indulgent and luxurious, but also responsible—a hallmark of sustainable hotel design done right.

Speaking on the studio’s values, Nicola Keenan shared:

“We always focus on quality and environmental impact in our work. All design details have been fully considered across the hotel.”

This careful attention to ethical sourcing extended to the project’s construction phase, where local contractors were selected for their energy-saving principles and commitment to hiring within the region, ensuring that the benefits of the redesign ripple outward into the wider community.

Handmade Details that Define the Experience

While the overarching vision is impressively coherent, it’s the bespoke craftsmanship that truly sets Miramonti apart. Boxx Creative commissioned a talented local artisan to produce nearly all of the hotel’s furnishings by hand, each piece designed specifically for the space.

The guest rooms feature open cabinetry with metal frames, solid wood desks, and reeded glass panelled doors with curved detailing that separate sleeping quarters from ensuite bathrooms. These thoughtful interventions don’t just add visual interest—they create a tactile experience that invites guests to slow down, observe, and connect with their environment.

The en-suites themselves are softly illuminated with Flos-designed pendant lights, while bedrooms feature Scandinavian-inspired adjustable wall sconces, marrying functional lighting with warm ambience. “Lighting was incredibly important to the client,” explains Nicola Lindsell, “and we wanted to reflect that by choosing fixtures that felt both expressive and comforting.”

Reconnecting with Nature Through Design

At its core, the redesign of Miramonti is a celebration of nature, wellbeing, and craftsmanship. By merging Scandinavian restraint, Italian colour sensibility, and contemporary spatial thinking, Boxx Creative has delivered an interior that feels rooted, restorative, and timeless.

Guests staying at the hotel are immersed in a tranquil world where every surface and finish has a story to tell. From the sustainable flooring beneath their feet to the views framed by bespoke furniture, the experience is one of total connection to nature, to place, and to thoughtful design.

The success of this ambitious transformation is perhaps best summed up by the hotel owners themselves:

“When we decided to redesign the hotel, we were conscious of finding a suitable partner that matched our values and design style. Boxx Creative had a great knowledge of suppliers and long-term sustainable options. Throughout the redesign, they presented ideas which reflected our sustainability goals as well as our overall artistic vision for the hotel.”

A Hotel for the Design-Conscious Traveller

Since opening its redesigned doors in 2019, Miramonti has quietly become a destination for travellers who value eco-conscious luxury, thoughtful interiors, and a sense of retreat from the everyday. The design is not showy, nor is it trend-driven—instead, it offers a deep, layered sensibility that feels more like a beautifully composed composition than a standard hotel.

This is interior design that doesn’t just impress, but invites conversation about sustainability, craft, regional identity, and the way we move through space. For anyone passionate about interior design, boutique hospitality, or the evolving world of conscious travel, Miramonti is a destination worth discovering.
