Alcova Miami 2025: A Platform for Experimental Design

During Miami Art Week 2025, Alcova returned to the historic Miami River Inn, reaffirming its reputation as one of the most thought-provoking design fairs in the international calendar. Unlike larger fairs that focus on already well-established names, Alcova continues to champion emerging talent, experimental ideas, and material innovation, providing a platform where creativity and craft take centre stage.

Set within the layered and intimate environment of the River Inn, the fair offered a refreshing alternative to sprawling exhibition halls. Visitors could wander through courtyards, rooms, and corridors, encountering installations that ranged from sculptural furniture and lighting to conceptual objects and immersive environments. The fair’s ethos emphasises curation, discovery, and engagement, ensuring that each designer, studio, or gallery is presented in a way that encourages thoughtful interaction with their work.

Highlights included Kayam Studio’s Wrinkled series, exploring skin and surface; LCD Textile’s multicolored sculptural textiles; Berto Sánchez’s Facetas collection, a contemporary reinterpretation of Tiffany aesthetics; Casa AnKan’s OASIS, a tactile, immersive exploration of material and craft; AB+AC’s Alma Mater, merging architectural precision with mindful ritual objects; ERM Studio’s Ciénaga Vidrio, capturing light and fluidity in glass; and Dace Sūna’s atmospheric lighting and mirrors, reflecting elemental forces and environmental observation. Across these installations, Alcova demonstrated a commitment to play, experimentation, and material innovation, making the fair a highlight of the Miami design scene.

Alcova’s ability to nurture emerging designers while celebrating established practices is what sets it apart. The fair reminds us that design is not just about objects, but about ideas, atmospheres, and experiences.
